10 Aug Blueberry Farming With Friends
Today I was thinking about how blessed I am with friends – from all over the place. This past week, we, as a family were able to celebrate our friendship with Len and Liz as their daughter is heading off to a mission field. She has had several people provide financial support along with other support to assist her upcoming adventure. To thank all her supporters, they had an ice cream extravaganza at our place.
Without a doubt, it was in our berry field, because in July and August that is where we live. We set up an extra tent, but other than that, we had what we needed. Four picnic tables already set up, and lots of room for lawn chairs and blankets. They had about sixty guests, and it was a pleasure to be a part of her celebration.
As the season goes on, we continue to harvest blueberries. If you are looking for our signs, they have changed this year. Last year, they were our homemade, signs with blue paint. This year we had a complete brand identity created for us, including a charming logo, nicely designed road signs, a stamp for our new wooden baskets, and the RussLynn Blueberries website.
We are still open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm every day. If you want to come outside those hours, please contact me at 604-309-8728 and we will make it work if we can. We have fresh berries in boxes or wooden baskets, frozen berries, and u-pick options available.
This year we also started selling hot pepper jelly, and blueberry sauce. Our blueberry sauce is great for ice cream, ice tea, pancakes, waffles, french toast, and more! If you are having high tea with tea biscuits today, switch the strawberry jam with blueberry sauce. I think you will like it. Our blueberry hot pepper jelly is best served on crackers with a bit of cream cheese.
Our berries are considered premium berries. They are handpicked and carefully cleaned. We think hand-picking is worth the time, as we get a better product. We use as little spray as we can, which most years means the berries get no sprays at all. Our goal is always, the best product we can give you!
This Sunday, we had company at our picnic tables. A gorgeous breeze blessed us too. Friends, blueberries and ice cream for dessert, the warm sun, warm grass beneath our feet, and the breeze all together in one spot, are the ingredients for a great afternoon. We had work to do at the end of the day, and that completed the day very well.We also had some u pickers which joined us for picnicking, which made the day complete. We look forward to more.
